Graduating in Literary Translation I wrote my dissertation about Oscar Wilde's 19th century novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray". For my oral exam in English I chose the 19th century novelist Jane Austen, the 20th century playwright Tennessee Williams and the 20th century writer Margaret Atwood. My subjects for French were the novelists George Sand and Guy de Maupassant (19th century) as well as the playwrights Anouilh and Marcel Pagnol (20th century). Subjects for my exam in German were Theodor Fontane (19th century) and Erich Kästner (20th century).

In my leisure time I like to read fantasy such as Marion Zimmer Bradley's or Wolfgang Hohlbein's books, historical novels such as M.M. Kaye as well as crime storys such as Patricia Cornwell or travel books such as those by Bill Bryson. "A Year in Provence" by Peter Mayle was hilarious. "Unlikely Destinations" by Tony and Maureen Wheeler about the origins of the Lonely Planet travel guides was very interesting and I loved "The Wilderness Family. Our Home with Africa's Wildlife", a true life story by Kobie Krüger.

I enjoyed very much "Seabiscuit" by Laura Hillenbrand, "The best a man can get" by Tony O'Farrell, "La nuit du temps" by René Barjavel, "The Phantom" by Susan Kay, and the "Harry Potter" books.

I prefer to read the original versions if possible.
